Latest version: distributed with KDE3.x
The latest aRts version is included with the latest
KDE version. The basic sound server is in a seperate package with a
seperate version number (currently 1.1.0 for the stable version). Then,
one part is in kdelibs, and another part in kdemultimedia. So
if you install these three packages, you will have a complete aRts. At the
time of writing this, the latest stable KDE version is 3.1, and there are
also snapshots of the development version of aRts.

Standalone version
If you don't use KDE (and don't want to use KDE), you can
still use the aRts soundserver as standalone application. There are
releases and daily development snapshots which will compile without
an installed KDE version.
Very old version
Before KDE2.0, aRts and Brahms used KDE1.x. At that time
aRts was also built on top of CORBA, and the version number was something
like aRts-0.3.4. You will find these versions still on older linux
distributions, and some of the documentation of this site here is also
referring to them (i.e. the manual), but should really be updated. Due to
porting, the new aRts versions don't yet support everything the old aRts
versions could do, but we're slowly getting there. On the other hand, they
support lots of things the old aRts versions could not do.
In any case, you can download these older software
versions here. Don't
expect them to work with recent environments (i.e. KDE2.x) though.
